Position on Generative AI images and AI text

SHARE THIS:

No AI Art required or requested

This website does not use, AI generative images. None of the copy was created by AI text software. We have been tricked in the past and we do not shy away from that. After all, we’re only human. Although we cannot always confirm the source of all quoted text, we can express our dedication to feature human voices and opinions. We are not interested in promoting AI imagery or text. We do not recognize AI Art as human derived – merely human requested.

Establishing facts

In order to have a civilized discussion about this subject, first there must be an agreement about facts. The first is that AI Art is not made by people. People describe an image and AIs use existing human art to generate an image. The person does not make anything. In addition, this is a paid service not an extension or reflection of an individual’s creativity or ability. 100% of it is created by the AI. This is more than truth. These are undisputed facts.

“There is no ethical way to use the major AI image generators. All of them are trained on stolen images, and all of them are built for the purpose of deskilling, disempowering and replacing real, human artists.”

Artist and Activist,

Why this matters

Human Artistic Culture is important. For a long time now, we have seen an alarming trend to embrace the commingling of AI Art and Human Art into one cultural record. Eventually AI Art will surpass human art. Accelerated by those who promote it, prompt it and buy it. We don’t do any of those things. Not to stop it but to provide a destination absent of it. An island in a sea polluted with AI Art distractions.

No Artificial Ingredients

This site runs on:

The History of Artistic technology

Since the dawn of civilization man has used Art to bind us. To tell our stories and to capture our feelings. For this you need feelings. Art delights and offends. It often challenges us and teaches us about ourselves as a species. Why would anyone want another soulless intelligence to chart our course? Art is a historical record that (until recently) only humans wrote. Museums around the world celebrate this. Will museums one day share space with AI Art?

Along the way, technology has disrupted the Art World. Threatening to destroy it only to enhance it. But it must also be recognized that the emergence of AI is nothing like the invention of the printing press, the camera or the computer. Those are tools used by people to make art. AI Art is often referred to as a “tool” but it is not. Tools don’t think.

AI is rewriting human Artistic culture in ways that cannot be understood right now. Our mission is not to stop it. That’s impossible. This brand chooses to focus on human creativity. Those who celebrate AI Art create an accelerated demand for what is known as AI Slop. The exponential build up of empty visual pollution which will shape the next generation.

Human Artistic Culture is important and worth preserving. Intermingling it with AI Art is something we cannot get behind. This site is merely absent of it. One day, Vectorvault will be valued for this attribute.

AI Artists are actually AI Art Directors

The act of paying an AI to generate an image for you is not artistic. It’s transactional. The AI is the Artist in this scenario. You are the AI Art Director. You’re directing another intelligence to make the “art” based on your description. Taking credit for an AI generated image is something that we do not recognize. We are alarmed at how many people do.

Some designers manipulate AI generative images thinking that by altering it, it becomes theirs. Similar to how a designer may download an image from a stock site and change it. Those image databases were once entirely populated with human derived images. Today, AI Art and Real Photography is grouped in the same category. AI Art is not photography but “realistic. Too realistic to be files under an Illustrations product category yet not separated from the rest. Not to mention large stock companies are using the hard work of millions of Human Creators to multiply their image database.

There is a difference between using stock art that you purchased and AI Art that you commissioned. The stock art you purchased existed already. Created for your anticipated future need by another human creator. When you pay for a custom image to be created by another intelligent creator, you officially enter a creative collaboration. You make a request for several options and you choose the one that works best. That’s Art Direction not Art.

When you add a non human intelligence into the creative process by definition: you are collaborating with another intelligence. The “Art” (plus your manipulation of it) is now a collaboration. The credit is no longer yours. You share it – With It.

Ordering a pizza doesn’t make you a chef.
Even if you choose the toppings.

Vectorvault fights for the living

It’s no secret that AI Art is designed to replace human Artists. Some believe that this will do the opposite for those who feed it prompts. They’re wrong. Although AI Art and Chat GPT would speed up the content on this site and reduce costs, for over 20 years we have held firm. We hire real people and pay them in full and on time. Why? Because the robots don’t need the money.

There is a growing movement of individuals who yearn for reality. That’s what this site offers. human voices and human created art. Vector Art happens to be our main focus. More specifically, the people who use it, buy it and love it. This is for you.

We only care about what people think

Comments identified as AI derived will be removed. A human will respond and react. We also understand that AI is already embedded within the search engines that carry Vectorvault. This is beyond our control. Keeping this Vector Archive absent of AI Art is an expensive and time consuming process. We endure it for a larger purpose.

Why is AI Art not Art?

One could argue that true art requires Soul. If you believe this to be true, then images that are made by and AI are not Art. Art is made by people. AIs have no soul. Therefore by definition AI Art is soulless. Also a fact.

No intention to offend

We understand that this position rubs some people the wrong way. Especially when you challenge someone’s artistic identity. Respectful and intelligent debate is welcome. Once you come to the understanding that you are not making anything when you buy AI Art, it becomes clear: You are not using the AI. It’s the other way around. The AI is using you.

Our advice:

Stop feeding it.
Stop telling others that it’s just a “tool”.
Tools don’t think.
Make it yourself.
we double dare you.
